Young and Experienced Ophthalmologists who are interested in medical eye trips, should check out SEE International.
"SEE works with partners around the world to restore sight and transform lives of underserved populations. We are committed to working in developing countries, where 90% of the world’s blind live, with the aim of ensuring all have access to quality eye care."
SEE does a great job of vetting and screening ophthalmologists so that the care given is exceptional. Only Board Certified Ophthalmologists are able to be lead surgeons on their trips. Ophthalmology Residents and Fellows can attend and pitch in but cannot perform surgery. This is a great way for YOs to get exposure to the world's blind poor, who desperately need our help! SEE has a lot of opportunities, especially for fellowship trained ophthalmologists to teach and train ophthalmologists in their home countries. This is a neat, sustainable way to empower local eye surgeons to better care for their communities.
Personal note: The late, Dr. Harry Brown, was the energetic, compassionate, visionary behind SEE International. Harry's life touched so many and his legacy lives on through SEE.
